Kelly Carmichael Booz Statement on Temporarily Returning SROs to ACPS Secondary Schools
Updated: Oct 22, 2021
Kelly Carmichael Booz, an ACPS mom and 20-year educator running for Alexandria School Board - District B, issued this statement following the Alexandria City Council's vote to reinstate SRO's at Alexandria City secondary schools through the end of the 2021-2022 school year:
The Council's recent action on School Resource Officers (SROs) means the new Council and new School Board will need to work together to ensure student and facility safety moving forward.
The paramount concern for everyone must be student safety. And issues related to student safety are much larger than just SROs. We need greater community engagement around the big issues facing our community, schools and students including mental health, systemic racism and systemic racism in policing, gun violence prevention and more.
