Why I am Running

My name is Kelly Carmichael Booz, and I am seeking reelection to the Alexandria School Board for District B on November 5, 2024. I’ve served on the board for six years (2013-2015 and 2022-2024), and I am proud to serve as the current Vice Chair.

Education is in my DNA. I have more than 25 years of experience working in education with civic education organizations and teacher unions. I work nationally with educators, parents, support staff, and more than 400 education organizations to help strengthen public education.

If there is anything I’ve learned from serving on the school board in 2013 and again in 2022, it's that we have to talk to each other and listen to each other, even when we disagree. Collaboration and partnerships are key ingredients to a great school system, and I look forward to working with you and everyone else to rebuild this partnership of trust and mutual respect.

We’ve come a long way since January 2022—when we were still wearing masks, supporting social-emotional recovery, and tackling learning loss from the pandemic – but we are not done. We still have so much work to do for our students and our staff, and that is why I am running for reelection.

Experience matters. Continuity matters. Commitment matters.

Join me in continuing this important work. Together, we can ensure that our schools are places where every student can thrive. Your support and your vote are crucial in making this vision a reality. Let's keep moving forward, together.
